Anne Elizabeth (Baker) Spindler, of Old Forge, passed away October 19th at home surrounded by her devoted family. Born on October 9, 1970, she was only 50 years old.
First and foremost came her beloved family. Married on August 14, 1993, she was the wife of Joseph Spindler, Jr. for 27 years; she was the proud mother of Sara Spindler and Elisabeth “Lizzie” Spindler of Old Forge; daughter of James T. and Mary Kay (Mulholland) Baker of Clarks Summit and Vero Beach, Fl.; sister of Terry Baker and fiance Katie Worsnick of Ft. Meyers, Fl., Holly Baker of Pittsburgh and Jamie Baker and wife Lindsey of Dallas, Tx.; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born in Scranton and raised in Clarks Summit, Anne was a graduate of Abington Heights High School. After earning her Bachelors Degree from the University of Scranton, she then began her career as an educator, first for the Delaware Valley School District before currently working in the technology department of the Scranton School District.
An amazingly dedicated Mom while raising her daughters, much of her traveling was centered around her involvement in their activities, especially due in large part to Lizzie’s standout basketball career.
Anne loved traveling, anywhere and everywhere, but particularly to Key West and Vero Beach, Fl. She also spent many summers at the family beach home in Lavalette, N.J. Her favorite place however was her home/her sanctuary, spending countless days poolside with her beautiful family.
She also loved the sun, gardening, her puppies, cruising on her bike at the shore and laughing. Her humor and sarcasm will never be forgotten.
Anne was so many things to so many people but the one common characteristic to all was her selflessness. Always others before herself, even through her illness her kindness and caring nature shined brightest. Her strength and courage was an inspiration and her memory is one to never be forgotten.
Anne’s family would like to thank all of the teachers who so selflessly donated their personal days so that Anne could continue her medical treatment. They would also like to thank Rosemary Boland, President of the Scranton Federation of Teachers, and John Coyle, Principal of the Scranton High School, for their understanding and guidance during Anne’s long and courageous battle with breast cancer. In addition, they would also like to thank all of her doctors, especially Drs. Elias Obeid and Melissa McShane of Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, as well as the nurses and staff at the Regional Hospital in Scranton.
A celebration of Anne’s life is set for Friday at 6:00 PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Mike Show of Baptist Bible College. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 4:00 PM until services.
