What are you reading?

I am reading "The Power Broker" by Robert Caro. It is about Robert Moses, the man responsible for building up the infrastructure of NYC (roads, bridges, parkways, etc). It is a fascinating read, the best book I've read in years. It is also almost 1200 pages, but I'm down to about 100.

The last book I finished was "Alex & Me" by Irene Pepperberg. It is about a research scientist and her test subject, Alex. Over the course of 30 years, they develop a close relationship, and she discovers that the term "birdbrain" can actually be a compliment. Alex is able to learn over 100 words, differentiate between shapes, colors and materials. Very good book.

Hi Greg.

I haven't been reading very much lately. I spend too much time on Facebook.

I'm still only 1/2 way through At the Helm. I have to finish it before my work review in September. The first half was not at all helpful. I'm not hopeful that 2nd half will be better.

I did read Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen last weekend.
It is a fictional story --spanning a 3.5 month of time in the life of a man who is at Cornell Vet school. He spends this time traveling with a circus as their veterinarian. It isn't the best book I have ever read, but it was different and it held my attention right from the start. I had never really thought about how circuses traveled with large numbers of exotic animals. It was a nice little distraction.

Finally got around to reading "The Historian"...very good, thank you for the recommendation. Now reading "A Lion Named Christian" about two guys who bought a lion in a department store in London in the 1970's.
